  1. Psalm 35 World English Bible (WEB)
    By David.
35 Contend, Yahweh, with those who contend with me.
Fight against those who fight against me.
2 Take hold of shield and buckler,
and stand up for my help.
3 Brandish the spear and block those who pursue me.
Tell my soul, “I am your salvation.”
4 Let those who seek after my soul be disappointed and brought to dishonor.
Let those who plot my ruin be turned back and confounded.
5 Let them be as chaff before the wind,
    Yahweh’s angel driving them on.
6 Let their way be dark and slippery,
    Yahweh’s angel pursuing them.
7 For without cause they have hidden their net in a pit for me.
Without cause they have dug a pit for my soul.
8 Let destruction come on him unawares.
Let his net that he has hidden catch himself.
Let him fall into that destruction.

9 My soul shall be joyful in Yahweh.
It shall rejoice in his salvation.
10 All my bones shall say, “Yahweh, who is like you,
    who delivers the poor from him who is too strong for him;
yes, the poor and the needy from him who robs him?”
    11 Unrighteous witnesses rise up.
They ask me about things that I don’t know about.
12 They reward me evil for good,
to the bereaving of my soul.

13 But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth.
I afflicted my soul with fasting.
My prayer returned into my own bosom.
14 I behaved myself as though it had been my friend or my brother.
I bowed down mourning, as one who mourns his mother.
15 But in my adversity, they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together.
The attackers gathered themselves together against me, and I didn’t know it.

    • Good Morning!!
35 Contend, Yahweh, with those who contend with me.
Fight against those who fight against me.

Reminds me of all the scriptures that are similar. The Lord rebuke you, the Lord goes before us, this is the Lords battle, I the Lord have overcome the world etc.

        • 4 Let those who seek after my soul be disappointed and brought to dishonor.
Let those who plot my ruin be turned back and confounded.
5 Let them be as chaff before the wind,
          Yahweh’s angel driving them on.
6 Let their way be dark and slippery,
          Yahweh’s angel pursuing them.

Not just to stop the assault but “pursuing them”
          Rob

          • Yes, pursuing them. I love that picture, that He is chasing them off to make sure that they never come back again.

          • Oh my… yes.. running them so far our of town and so totally defeated that they can never rise up again. Understanding the “triumphal Entry” of the Romans. It was very common to do things like blind, and maim the defeated leaders of an army and then put them on public display to show the people that the thing they feared has been disarmed and rendered harmless.

Colossians 2:11-17 World English Bible (WEB)
11 In him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, in the putting off of the body of the sins of the flesh, in the circumcision of Christ, 12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead. 13 You were dead through your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh. He made you alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 wiping out the handwriting in ordinances which was against us. He has taken it out of the way, nailing it to the cross. 15 Having stripped the principalities and the powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

16 Let no one therefore judge you in eating, or in drinking, or with respect to a feast day or a new moon or a Sabbath day, 17 which are a shadow of the things to come; but the body is Christ’s.

    • 13 But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth.
I afflicted my soul with fasting.
My prayer returned into my own bosom.
Though I don’t believe David was praying out of fear he certainly sensed the need for protection . Is this verse indicating him interceding for his sick enemies? KC

        • I love that David honoured Saul as King even though essentially God had rejected him in favour of David and Saul kept trying to kill him. He prayed for Saul and even when he had the chance to kill him in the cave, he did not, but he also let Saul know that he could have done it. Then he killed the man who killed Saul, even though Saul had asked him to do it. David took Saul being anointed by God very seriously, also I think that David really loved Saul despite everything.

        14
        I behaved as if grieving for my friend or my brother;
I bowed down in mourning, as one who sorrows for his mother.

        Sounds like it.

    • These verses all spring boarded from the verse in Revelation 6. It is such a fascinating thing that innocent blood shed (think Abel in Genesis) and that the cry of the righteousness slain require justice. God is both the perfectly just Judge and the Perfectly Loving Father. Both Justice and Mercy are His.

    • Good morning all.
I love vs3; Brandish the spear and block those who pursue me. Tell my soul, “I am your salvation.” In the Passion Version, is says “Speak over my soul: “I am your strong Savior!” It goes along with so many verses where He talks about being our protector, our strong Savior. Psalm 46:7 NASB The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our stronghold. Selah.

    • The Lord laid this verse on my heart last night. It is so so comforting to know that God is watching out for us all the time. When I was a child, I think the thing I said more than anything else is “that’s not fair”… I have two sisters… nuf said. The revelations available in these verses have the power to totally release us from the fear and anxiousness that can come in when evil people seem to be prospering / dominating events in the world. The actual facts are that God is always sovereign and always watching and will absolutely execute justice. When we also understand His promise for protection and the reality of the authority we now have in Christ are a powerful combination. So regardless of what is “going on” we can rest deeply in the goodness of our God.

    • vs 7 and 8… they will be snared in their own nets… Really, it is just a terrible bad and ill fated plan to plot against God’s special people. I think of Nabaal and of Balaam.. You cannot curse those God has blessed…. LOVE THIS. So comforting. See all of Number 22
Numbers 22:12 New Living Translation (NLT)
12 But God told Balaam, “Do not go with them. You are not to curse these people, for they have been blessed!”
Numbers 23 WEB “6 He returned to him, and behold, he was standing by his burnt offering, he, and all the princes of Moab. 7 He took up his parable, and said,

“From Aram has Balak brought me,
the king of Moab from the mountains of the East.
      Come, curse Jacob for me.
      Come, defy Israel.
8 How shall I curse whom God has not cursed?
How shall I defy whom Yahweh has not defied?
9 For from the top of the rocks I see him.
From the hills I see him.
Behold, it is a people that dwells alone,
and shall not be listed among the nations.
10 Who can count the dust of Jacob,
or count the fourth part of Israel?
Let me die the death of the righteous!
Let my last end be like his!”

11 Balak said to Balaam, “What have you done to me? I took you to curse my enemies, and behold, you have blessed them altogether.”

12 He answered and said, “Must I not take heed to speak that which Yahweh puts in my mouth?”

  2. Psalm 35 WEB “Like the profane mockers in feasts,
they gnashed their teeth at me.
17 Lord, how long will you look on?
Rescue my soul from their destruction,
my precious life from the lions.
18 I will give you thanks in the great assembly.
I will praise you among many people.
    19 Don’t let those who are my enemies wrongfully rejoice over me;
neither let those who hate me without a cause wink their eyes.
20 For they don’t speak peace,
but they devise deceitful words against those who are quiet in the land.
21 Yes, they opened their mouth wide against me.
They said, “Aha! Aha! Our eye has seen it!”
22 You have seen it, Yahweh. Don’t keep silent.
Lord, don’t be far from me.
23 Wake up! Rise up to defend me, my God!
    My Lord, contend for me!
24 Vindicate me, Yahweh my God, according to your righteousness.
Don’t let them gloat over me.
25 Don’t let them say in their heart, “Aha! That’s the way we want it!”
Don’t let them say, “We have swallowed him up!”
26 Let them be disappointed and confounded together who rejoice at my calamity.
Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor who magnify themselves against me.

27 Let those who favor my righteous cause shout for joy and be glad.
Yes, let them say continually, “May Yahweh be magnified,
who has pleasure in the prosperity of his servant!”
28 My tongue shall talk about your righteousness and about your praise all day long.

And wake up Lord? He always comes back with a heart of worship ! I love and relate to the prayers of David and never want to forget that what makes him a man after God’s own heart was his worship of the Father. A foreshadowing of the heart of Yeshua! KC

      • Yes I have always loved Davids heart as a worshiper. He certainly was not a perfect man, but He loved and worshipped his God without reservation or inhibition. 2Samuel 6:14 And David was dancing before the Lord with all his might and David was wearing a linen ephod. He didn’t care what anyone thought about him when he worshipped, even his own wife who it says “despised him” when she saw him worshipping like that. It seems God may have punished her for that as she did not ever have any children.

Pretty disturbing, that kind of attack. Certainly understand David’s cry to the Lord.

Then I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom (dominion, reign) of our God, and the authority of His Christ have come; for the accuser of our [believing] brothers and sisters has been thrown down [at last], he who accuses them and keeps bringing charges [of sinful behavior] against them before our God day and night.

I Must remember, that’s where the accusations come from. Thanks Lord, for your cleaning blood.

      • So true, there are always people plotting at the cost of others to their own benefit. I love that God has provided protection for those who seek it from Him against these plots. We see in the time of Noah that the people had gotten so far removed from God, that all their thoughts were evil.

Here is the thing… the truth is that God created every person and wants everyone saved… BUT man is capable of so utterly yielding to darkness that they can get to the point of thinking only that which is evil and plots harm against others . What is a good God to do with man who is bent on destroying all that the Lord loves?

Genesis 6:4-6 World English Bible (WEB)
4 The Nephilim were in the earth in those days, and also after that, when God’s sons came in to men’s daughters and had children with them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.

5 Yahweh saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of man’s heart was continually only evil. 6 Yahweh was sorry that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him in his heart.

    • I’ve always thought that whole picture of gnashing teeth as a very vivid description of the level of malevolence that is being portrayed in the verses that use it. It is pretty horrifying really, gives me a picture of a pack of dogs that are ready to tear someone apart. Thank you Father God that you are there to defend us.

      • I think I struggle with really believing that people can be so totally given over to evil that they are deserving of hell and the horrible descriptions of eternal damnation.. but scripture bears this out. My head struggles with this but if God in His righteous judgement says this is going to be the end result for some. … it something I have to come to a greater acceptance ofKC

  3. Revelation 6 World English Bible (WEB)
6 I saw that the Lamb opened one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures saying, as with a voice of thunder, “Come and see!” 2 Then a white horse appeared, and he who sat on it had a bow. A crown was given to him, and he came out conquering, and to conquer.

3 When he opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, “Come!” 4 Another came out: a red horse. To him who sat on it was given power to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another. There was given to him a great sword.

5 When he opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature saying, “Come and see!” And behold, a black horse, and he who sat on it had a balance in his hand. 6 I heard a voice in the middle of the four living creatures saying, “A choenix of wheat for a denarius, and three choenix of barley for a denarius! Don’t damage the oil and the wine!”

7 When he opened the fourth seal, I heard the fourth living creature saying, “Come and see!” 8 And behold, a pale horse, and the name of he who sat on it was Death. Hades followed with him. Authority over one fourth of the earth, to kill with the sword, with famine, with death, and by the wild animals of the earth was given to him.

9 When he opened the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of those who had been killed for the Word of God, and for the testimony of the Lamb which they had. 10 They cried with a loud voice, saying, “How long, Master, the holy and true, until you judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” 11 A long white robe was given to each of them. They were told that they should rest yet for a while, until their fellow servants and their brothers, who would also be killed even as they were, should complete their course.

12 I saw when he opened the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake. The sun became black as sackcloth made of hair, and the whole moon became as blood. 13 The stars of the sky fell to the earth, like a fig tree dropping its unripe figs when it is shaken by a great wind. 14 The sky was removed like a scroll when it is rolled up. Every mountain and island was moved out of its place. 15 The kings of the earth, the princes, the commanding officers, the rich, the strong, and every slave and free person, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains. 16 They told the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb, 17 for the great day of his wrath has come; and who is able to stand?”

    • vs 9-11 of Revelation 6 are what stirred up this topic. I think this helps us to understand what roll we can play as ministers of reconciliation. We can forgive and release the land from the curse that the act of the shedding blood of the innocents has brought on the land. Babies, and indigenous nations have been targetted in abominable ways… Many of us have a deep passion to defend and stand up for the weak and the vulnerable.. A reflection of the heart of the Father.

      • Amp 2 Cor 5:18
But all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ [making us acceptable to Him] and gave us the ministry of reconciliation [so that by our example we might bring others to Him],

I Love this. reconciliation by example.
        Rob

      • Yes… my heart breaks for how so much evil destruction has come to indigenous people. There’s much to repent for on their behalf… I have always been appalled at the ‘bully ‘spirit that rises up to attack the innocent and meek , unable to defend themselves… like special needs people as well. KC

  4. Psalm 149 World English Bible (WEB)
    149 Praise Yahweh!
Sing to Yahweh a new song,
his praise in the assembly of the saints.
2 Let Israel rejoice in him who made them.
Let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.
3 Let them praise his name in the dance!
Let them sing praises to him with tambourine and harp!
4 For Yahweh takes pleasure in his people.
He crowns the humble with salvation.
5 Let the saints rejoice in honor.
Let them sing for joy on their beds.
6 May the high praises of God be in their mouths,
and a two-edged sword in their hand,
7 to execute vengeance on the nations,
    and punishments on the peoples;
8 to bind their kings with chains,
    and their nobles with fetters of iron;
9 to execute on them the written judgment.
All his saints have this honor.
    Praise Yah!

    • Psalm 149 reveals that we can be an extension of His justice… I believe that Christ must be established as our head in order for us to walk this out powerfully. Aaron was able to run through the nation of Israel with a censer of incense and stop the plague. We can do things just as powerful (potentially more so as we are under an even better covenant) in Christ but it hinges on us acting as His body and not as the head. He alone must be our head.

  5. Deuteronomy 32:30-36 World English Bible (WEB)
30 How could one chase a thousand,
and two put ten thousand to flight,
unless their Rock had sold them,
and Yahweh had delivered them up?
31 For their rock is not as our Rock,
    even our enemies themselves concede.
32 For their vine is of the vine of Sodom,
    of the fields of Gomorrah.
    Their grapes are poison grapes.
    Their clusters are bitter.
33 Their wine is the poison of serpents,
    the cruel venom of asps.

34 “Isn’t this laid up in store with me,
    sealed up among my treasures?
35 Vengeance is mine, and recompense,
    at the time when their foot slides;
for the day of their calamity is at hand.
    Their doom rushes at them.”

36 For Yahweh will judge his people,
and have compassion on his servants,
    when he sees that their power is gone;
that there is no one remaining, shut up or left at large.

  6. Isaiah 49:24-26 New Living Translation (NLT)
24 Who can snatch the plunder of war from the hands of a warrior?
Who can demand that a tyrant let his captives go?
    25 But the Lord says,
“The captives of warriors will be released,
and the plunder of tyrants will be retrieved.
For I will fight those who fight you,
and I will save your children.
26 I will feed your enemies with their own flesh.
They will be drunk with rivers of their own blood.
All the world will know that I, the Lord,
am your Savior and your Redeemer,
    the Mighty One of Israel.”

    • We see this trying reoccurring theme in these amazing promises. The battle IS the Lords… judgement will circle back on the enemies heads(Hamon)
“For I will fight those who fight you and I will save your children” .. A promise to to review and proclaim often!KC

    • I love verse 25 But the Lord says,……….”For I fight those who fight you, and I will save your children.” Such comfort for this Mother’s heart.
