  1. Luke 24 WEB 5 Becoming terrified, they bowed their faces down to the earth. They said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? 6 He isn’t here, but is risen. Remember what he told you when he was still in Galilee, 7 saying that the Son of Man must be delivered up into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, and the third day rise again?” 8 They remembered his words, 9 returned from the tomb, and told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. 10 Now they were Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Mary the mother of James. The other women with them told these things to the apostles. 11 These words seemed to them to be nonsense, and they didn’t believe them. 12 But Peter got up and ran to the tomb. Stooping and looking in, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he departed to his home, wondering what had happened.”

    • Isn’t it something? Even though Jesus told them, and now their is evidence of everything He said unfolding… the sense knowledge and head knowledge of the people was so much greater that when they heard the report of the eyewitnesses, they could not believe it/perceive it. I love Peter’s impulsive response.

    • “These words seemed to them to be nonsense” was what jumped out at me. Was something lost in translation as these women delivered the news to the apostles…for would they not have remembered Jsus’s words as well if they had been the ones first at the tomb? KC

      • There are some that preach and admonish strongly that women should not preach the gospel or teach. I do find it noteworthy that Jesus revealed His resurretion first to the women. they were the first witnesses and most of the men missed it. So perhaps there is something to having an emotional and not rational response when it comes to the Lord???

  2. Amp 1:11 But their report seemed to them like idle talk and nonsense, and they would not believe them. 12 But Peter got up and ran to the tomb. Stooping [at the small entrance] and looking in, he saw only the linen [a]wrappings; and he went away, wondering about what had happened.
    Leave it to Peter!!

    • Is it possible that being complacent/passive or needing to have 10 reassurances before acting is the far greater challenge facing the body of Christ? Jesus chose Peter, the extremely responsive one to be the rock on which to choose His church. What can we learn from this?

      • I find we often have little sayings in that seem wise but potentially actually encourage us to disobey God. “Fools rush in” comes to mind. I think when it comes to obeying the Word of God, one looks foolish to the world. 1 Cor 4:10 BSB “For it seems to me that God has displayed us apostles at the end of the procession, like prisoners appointed for death. We have become a spectacle to the whole world, to angels as well as to men. 10We are fools for Christ, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are honored, but we are dishonored. 11To this very hour we are hungry and thirsty, we are poorly clothed, we are brutally treated, we are homeless.”

      • Even though he saw the empty tomb he did not immediately understand. Bless his heart for being himself, impulsive and all.
        Rob

      • I agree Peter is very human character with little refinement and social graces and I have known people like Peter. Impulsivity though has never been a positive thing in my view ,I have to be honest to admit… I’m one that usually needs 10 reassurances …so you make a good point here Lisa.

  3. next passage “13 Behold, two of them were going that very day to a village named Emmaus, which was sixty stadia from Jerusalem. 14 They talked with each other about all of these things which had happened. 15 While they talked and questioned together, Jesus himself came near, and went with them. 16 But their eyes were kept from recognizing him. 17 He said to them, “What are you talking about as you walk, and are sad?”

18 One of them, named Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only stranger in Jerusalem who doesn’t know the things which have happened there in these days?”

19 He said to them, “What things?”

They said to him, “The things concerning Jesus, the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people; 20 and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him. 21 But we were hoping that it was he who would redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened. 22 Also, certain women of our company amazed us, having arrived early at the tomb; 23 and when they didn’t find his body, they came saying that they had also seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive. 24 Some of us went to the tomb, and found it just like the women had said, but they didn’t see him.”

      • I believe after Jesus was resurrected it takes ‘new’ eyes to relate to Him in the spirit. I have often felt it would have been a disadvantage to have known Him in the flesh whereas Paul having never seen Him and lived with Him as the other apostles became the great example of what is available to all of us now.In answer to the question ‘If you could go back in time and have lunch with someone people often say Jesus…but my answer is always Paul for that reason.KC

    • This whole dialogue is so very very human.. I can so relate. There’s all this stuff happening that points to one conclusion and YET, my rational mind and senses need that tangible (stick my hands in the wounds like Thomas) confirmation for me to be absolutely sure. Reminds me of the biblical definition of sin. “anything that is not of faith is sin”. That last phrase “but they didn’t see Him” suggests that they still did not fully believe the women’s report???

      • Yes I often wonder at the many times in the scriptures where it says their eyes were blinded or their ears were stopped up. Sometimes it says that God did that and other times it does not. It is a mystery to me, other than maybe they aren’t ready to see yet or maybe Jesus was not ready to be seen. Was He just trying to see how people were reacting and wanted it to be a true reaction not coloured by seeing Him. I don’t of course know only speculation, but it does perplex me.

    • Also interesting to note that they were very aware of the rulers and chief priests being the responsible ones.. those who literally nailed Jesus to the Cross. This reminds me of today’s situation. Things that had been a source of stability and comfort for so long were being shaken on every level. Their trust in the leadership was either one or being deeply shaken.

  4. I just want to go back for a minute to the death of Christ because I read a scripture in 2 Corinthians 5:21 which really hit me today. 21”He made Christ who knew no Sin to (judicially) be sin on our behalf, that in Him we would become the righteousness of God(that is, we would be made acceptable to Him and placed in a right relationship with Him by His gracious loving kindness).” Because we have been placed in this right relationship with Him that gives us the ability through Him to be bold and not to care or worry about how it looks to others. Lord Jesus make that so real to me that it imprints on my heart and spirit and ignites the fire in my bones that cannot be shut up.
Also it is really hitting me and going deeper, that He became sin for Me to save Me. It has to be so personal. It’s hard to even put it into words to express what I am feeling about this.

  5. Amp 16 But their eyes were [miraculously] prevented from recognizing Him.
Fascinating, then later He removes the “blinding their eyes recognizing Him.
    Rob

  6. next passage “25 He said to them, “Foolish men, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Didn’t the Christ have to suffer these things and to enter into his glory?” 27 Beginning from Moses and from all the prophets, he explained to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself. 28 They came near to the village where they were going, and he acted like he would go further.
29 They urged him, saying, “Stay with us, for it is almost evening, and the day is almost over.”
He went in to stay with them. 30 When he had sat down at the table with them, he took the bread and gave thanks. Breaking it, he gave it to them. 31 Their eyes were opened and they recognized him, then he vanished out of their sight. 32 They said to one another, “Weren’t our hearts burning within us, while he spoke to us along the way, and while he opened the Scriptures to us?” 33 They rose up that very hour, returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and those who were with them, 34 saying, “The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!” 35 They related the things that happened along the way, and how he was recognized by them in the breaking of the bread.

    • vs 26 didn’t Christ have to suffer to enter His glory… Question? Is it possible for any man to not suffer and enter into that same glory? Mark 10:30 “King James Bible “But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life” Even the verse that says “deny yourself, pick up your cross, and follow me (walk as I walked)” suggests suffering to the point of death on some level(s)

    • vs 31… Cannot imagine their emotions at this moment. To suddenly realize that they had been with Him and now He was gone again. How often have I missed the comfort of Christ with Me, of the Lord my very present help (psalm 46)… Especially in this present season. So easy to get caught up with all the hype and distractions are gates are bombarded with daily.

    • Amp 25 Then Jesus said to them, “O foolish men, and slow of heart to trust and believe in everything that the prophets have spoken! 26 Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and [only then to] enter His glory?”
I cry out to not be “fools, slow of heart, trust and belief to the Presence and moving of God today in every
detail. I don’t want miss anything.
      Phil 3:10.And this, so that I may know Him [experientially, becoming more thoroughly acquainted with Him, understanding the remarkable wonders of His Person more completely] and [in that same way experience] the power of His resurrection [which overflows and is active in believers], and [that I may share] the fellowship of His sufferings, by being continually conformed [inwardly into His likeness even] to His death [dying as He did];
      Rob

    • Their hearts burned within them as He spoke along the way ,and while He opened the scriptures to the. It is SO fascinating that even then they didn’t recognize Him physically until He broke the bread. This the passage that makes me feel that they entered into a new way of relating to Him now based on the Words He spoke that burned witching their hearts.
      KC

    • Interesting that their hearts were burning within them, which to me means that there was something in them deep down that recognized Him, it just didn’t get to their conscious minds until the breaking of the bread. That I find really fascinating also, that it took the breaking of the bread. That again drives home to me how important the communion of the breaking of the bread and the drinking of the wine is.
      Wendy

        • Every time I take that communion cup now, I think of the covenant I am not in with Christ. I am betrothed. My job is to prepare for my life with Him and await His return in purity and with great anticipation. This also means I am precious to Him, He is preparing a home for me… He cares deeply about my wellbeing.

      • Yes and Yes! I find that the more I walk with God, the more people respond to me both in the negative and in the positive. Christ in us is very evident for all to see. For those running from Him, offensive.. for those seeking Him or those who are lost in hurting, often very comforting without knowing why. ” Not I but Christ in me.” So need to know that how people respond to us has much more to do with Him and the Kingdom inside of us then us personally. Without realizing this, it is so easy to get hurt and offended.

        • There is something that God is doing at this time period, separating, hardening hearts, so many things.
Pondering these things and crying out.
          Rob

    • Their hearts were burning as this ‘unrecognized stranger’ walked with them and they even urged this ‘person ‘whom they didn’t recognize by sight to stay with them…. so what met their hearts wasn’t the physical comfort of His Presence but that He was that Living word and when He spoke they experienced in their spirits connection and oneness with God.
      KC

    • “ and He acted like He would go further” This kind of implies perhaps that He did want to see where they were at in their hearts .. so to speak, whether the invitation was still there for His Presence to be with them and continue speaking which it obviously was but,Yes this seemed purposeful on Jesus part for Him to hide Himself or keep their eyes from recognizing Himself until the moment He broke the bread.

  7. next passage “36 As they said these things, Jesus himself stood among them, and said to them, “Peace be to you.” 37 But they were terrified and filled with fear, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.
38 He said to them, “Why are you troubled? Why do doubts arise in your hearts? 39 See my hands and my feet, that it is truly me. Touch me and see, for a spirit doesn’t have flesh and bones, as you see that I have.” 40 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. 41 While they still didn’t believe for joy, and wondered, he said to them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” 42 They gave him a piece of a broiled fish and some honeycomb. 43 He took them, and ate in front of them. 44 He said to them, “This is what I told you, while I was still with you, that all things which are written in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms, concerning me must be fulfilled.”

    • LOL…. Jesus just absolutely gets man. The first things He says is peace be to you…. just imagine the guilt and shame that someone could have been feeling in that moment for having disbelieved Jesus’ own words on the matter. And yet in compassion and grace He extends acceptance and mercy to them.

    • “While they still didn’t believe for joy, and wondered, he said to them”… They just couldn’t get past the witness and the emotions of the last few days… I find it so interesting that He changes the topic and gets them engaged in something familiar… possibly to set them at ease by focussing on something mundane they could relate to and readily do.

    • Amp He asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” 42 They gave Him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and He took it and ate it in front of them.
I have always loved this Scripture.
      Rob

    • Just like now in the body of Christ ,there is much confusion terror and fear concerning the spirit realm and how it works. I long not to be terrified of things the Lord tells me I should have no fear of and to perceive and understand the realm He lives in now and that we have been transferred to. And are meant to function in while clothed in a body. KC

      • Yes Lord make your words of Peace to us give us just that, so that amidst the storm we have your peace, the peace that passes understanding Phil 4:7,
so You can move through us at all times. Thank you Lord Jesus
Love you all, have a blessed day and enjoy the Beauty that He has given us.

        Wendy

  8. vs 44. This hits home. Jesus was doing far far far more than anyone was perceiving.. He was satisfying every requirement of the Law and fulfilling every prophecy and utterly reversing every aspect of the Fall of man. He dotted every i and crossed every T. So that we no longer have to wonder if Jesus did it. YES, YES, YES. Even if we don’t understand the exact moment or action He did it with, we know that He came to fully restore, to fully redeem and to fully heal. PRAISE GOD!!!! THANK YOU LORD YESHUA!!!!
