God’s love language

This was a pondering I had some time ago that popped into my head again today….

Do you remember that book the 5 Love Languages that was popular a few years back?   I was thinking today about what the Bible tells us is God’s love language.   The premise of the book was it is our job to study and figure out what the other person’s love language is and then love on them that way, as our tendency is to love other’s in the language we like to be loved in.  The punchline is if we love someone, we love them in their language, this takes effort as very often that is different than what we would do naturally.  It also mentions it is one of the reasons are offerings of affections aren’t always received so well by our spouse.

I was thinking are we loving God in His language or ours?  I think this is something that I need to learn more about and would love to find more scriptures about how God likes to be loved.

some scriptures that came to mind

A third time he asked him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”  Peter was hurt that Jesus asked the question a third time. He said, “Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Then feed my sheep.” – John 21:17 (NLT)

15 “If you love me, obey my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. 17 He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you. 18 No, I will not abandon you as orphans—I will come to you. 19 Soon the world will no longer see me, but you will see me. Since I live, you also will live. 20 When I am raised to life again, you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. 21 Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them.” – John 14:15-21
