We have been spending a lot of time talking about our identity in Christ.    Part of our identity is understanding what position we hold on the team.    This may surprise some, but we are actually on the offensive line.   Unlike soldiers and players on a team, the defensive part of our team is so great that almost nothing can touch us.    I believe there is only one chink in our armour…  Persecution.    If anything else is getting through, God needs to shift some things in our thinking.

If we look to our experience, we would likely come to an entirely different conclusion.  But what if we look purely at scripture and we keep our experience out of the equation?

Considering our immunities…

According to scripture, are we still subject to sin and to the dominion sin?   of darkness?

Sin.. I am gonna refer you to this post Call to be Blameless and without sin  .   I encourage you to see for yourselves what scripture says on this topic.

Powers of Darkness???

Colossians 1 KJV ” ¹² Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:  ¹³ Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:  ¹⁴ In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:  ¹⁵ Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:  ¹⁶ For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:  ¹⁷ And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.”

Are we subject to viruses, bacteria, radiation etc…?

Galatians 4 King James Version (KJV) 4 Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all;  2 But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.  3 Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world:  4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,  5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.  6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.  7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.  8 Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods.  9 But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?

We are no longer subject or in bondage to the beggarly elements (the elemental principles of this world).  

John 8:35-37 New Living Translation (NLT) “35 A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son is part of the family forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free. 37 Yes, I realize that you are descendants of Abraham. And yet some of you are trying to kill me because there’s no room in your hearts for my message.”

2 Corinthians 5:17 King James Version (KJV) “17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

Personal present conviction…  old things are passed away and all things are become new.   Even though it looks like my old body and my old self, the Word says all things are become new.    Might sound a bit strange, but Psalm 91 and Luke 10 both confirm that nothing shall my any means hurt us….    Galatians 3 tells us that we are actually now in Christ.  What sickness or sin or darkness can remain in Christ?

Galatians 3:27 King James Version (KJV) “27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.”

Luke 10:19 King James Version (KJV) “19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”

Psalm 91 World English Bible (WEB)  “91 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.  2 I will say of Yahweh, “He is my refuge and my fortress;  my God, in whom I trust.”   3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler, and from the deadly pestilence.  4 He will cover you with his feathers.     Under his wings you will take refuge.  His faithfulness is your shield and rampart.  5 You shall not be afraid of the terror by night,  nor of the arrow that flies by day,  6 nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that wastes at noonday.  7 A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand;  but it will not come near you.  8 You will only look with your eyes,  and see the recompense of the wicked.  9 Because you have made Yahweh your refuge,  and the Most High your dwelling place, 10 no evil shall happen to you,  neither shall any plague come near your dwelling.  11 For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways.   12 They will bear you up in their hands,  o tshat you won’t dash your foot against a stone.  13 You will tread on the lion and cobra.  You will trample the young lion and the serpent underfoot.   14 “Because he has set his love on me, therefore I will deliver him.      I will set him on high, because he has known my name.  15 He will call on me, and I will answer him.  I will be with him in trouble.  I will deliver him, and honor him. 16 I will satisfy him with long life, and show him my salvation.”

Regardless of the why we are not secured and protected utterly from these things, scripturally, the facts are that we are.  So why are we sick and weak and dying in spite of these things?

The Challenge:

Is it possible God has actually called us to go out on the offensive against the powers of darkness just as He sent Jesus out?

I personally believe this is the case.  Please read the scriptures below and see what they say.

If we don’t understand our immunity and our armour and our protection in Christ, we can never step out with the boldness and confidence and fearlessness we need to, to fulfill the purposes and plans He has created us to fulfill.     The more evil and unehealthful elements are released in the world, whether the contamination of our food, water and air, the increasing bombardment of things like pharmaceuticals in our water and radiation in our homes and streets, the pressures of an increasing population, greenhouse gases.. whatever “stuff” that is out there and impactful to human wellness …  The more knowing these promises and learning to walk in their fullness will be essential for our general wellbeing and health.   God for-knew everything that man would come up with and everything that would happen in our environment.  His provision remains perfect in every circumstance.

Isaiah 26:3 KJV “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”

Psalm 149 WEB “Let the saints rejoice in honor.  Let them sing for joy on their beds.  6 May the high praises of God be in their mouths,  and a two-edged sword in their hand,7 to execute vengeance on the nations,  and punishments on the peoples; 8 to bind their kings with chains,  and their nobles with fetters of iron;  9 to execute on them the written judgment.   All his saints have this honor.  Praise Yah!”

Dear Friends and Family, The parralels between these two passages are so striking.     All through scriptures, God has placed these kinds of “litmus” test type passages.

As you read, please note for yourselves the number of blessings and even eternal life hangs on how we respond to the needs of others.

First passage today

Genesis 2 KJV”¹¹ And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren. ¹² And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.   ¹³ And when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews strove together: and he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow?  ¹⁴ And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known.  ¹⁵ Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. Psalm 34:3 King James Version (KJV) “³ O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.”

 

We may wonder at how David was so confident in facing Goliath.   David had at least a few “secret” weapons.  He had invested time and energy in His own heart magnifying God and submitting to God’s Words and commands.

1 Samuel 30:6 King James Version (KJV) “^“6 And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.”

David understood the importance of encouraging himself in the Lord.  He feared and reverenced God and was devoted to God’s will and ways.   We see this in the passages regarding King Saul.  Out of reverence for God, David utterly refused (even in thought) to kill Saul as he so deeply reverenced God that to hurt His anointed in any way was to go against the living God.  His conscience was pricked even by the action of cutting Saul’s robe to prove that he had been within striking range to kill him.    He had spent time in the Word.  He understood that this was the key to walking in righteousness and resisting sin.

 

Romans 10:17 King James Version (KJV) “¹⁷ So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

 

Psalm 119:11 King James Version (KJV) ^{11 ”} Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”

David had pre-determined, pre-committed to obey God even unto death.  He preferred to die than to do something displeasing to God.   He was willing to fight for God’s purposes and plans.  

Philippians 4:8 King James Version (KJV) “⁸ Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

Luke 1:45-47 King James Version (KJV) “⁴⁵ And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.  ⁴⁶ And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,  ⁴⁷ And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.”

Acts 10:44-46 King James Version (KJV) “^“44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.  ⁴⁵ And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.  ⁴⁶ For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God.”

Job 36:23-26 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)  “²³ Who has appointed God His way? Or who can say, You have done unrighteousness? ²⁴ Remember that [by submission] you magnify God’s work, of which men have sung.   ²⁵ All men have looked upon God’s work; man may behold it afar off.²⁶ Behold, God is great, and we know Him not! The number of His years is unsearchable.”

PSALM 78 (I do encourage you to read it:  This Psalm and many others magnify God by replaying His faithful deeds and miraculous answers to prayer and provisions to His people).  There are many passages like it.

Psalm 69 AMPC “³⁰ I will praise the name of God with a song and will magnify Him with thanksgiving,  ³¹ And it will please the Lord better than an ox or a bullock that has horns and hoofs.”

Summary of How we magnify God:

1. Meditate on His nature, His ability, His promises, His past faithfulness, His Creation and His Word
2. By praising Him, thanking Him and being aware of His presence and His provision continually.
3. By making it a habit/lifestyle to submit to Him and by doing so witness His faithfulness in every circumstance (David had already successfully fought a lion and a bear by the time he had to face Goliath)
4. Praying in tongues and spending time in worship and praise will bring us into a posture of magnifying Him
5. Recounting to ourselves the great and miraculous things He has done both in Scripture and in our own lives (keeping a praise and faithfulness journal is an excellent habit and something to review often).  I also write down dreams and visions as well as “rhema” words, scriptures that have lept off the page to me and transformed my life.  These remind that God has never failed me or forsaken me.

 

Romans 4:19-22 New Living Translation (NLT) “^“19 And Abraham’s faith did not weaken, even though, at about 100 years of age, he figured his body was as good as dead—and so was Sarah’s womb.²⁰ Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God. ²¹ He was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever he promises. ²² And because of Abraham’s faith, God counted him as righteous.”

You might ask yourself, how long do I need to do these things for?  The answer, is as long as it takes.   The Word will transform your heart and thinking to line up as long as you keep it before your eyes and think about it often.   

Isaiah 55:11 New Living Translation (NLT) “¹¹ It is the same with my word.  I send it out, and it always produces fruit.  It will accomplish all I want it to,   and it will prosper everywhere I send it.”

Ephesians 5:25-27 King James Version (KJV) “^“25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;²⁶ That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,  ²⁷ That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.”

 

Dangers of magnifying man and those other than God. 

Bottom line, is that we become slaves to whatever we magnify.   Please see the post about guarding your gates.  What you let in to your thinking the most, will dominate your thoughts and actions.  There is simply no way to eat from the knowledge of the tree of good and evil and remain pure.

Daniel 8:23-26 King James Version (KJV) “^“ And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up.²⁴ And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people.²⁵ And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.  ²⁶ And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true: wherefore shut thou up the vision; for it shall be for many days.”

Men did shameful things with other men, and as a result of this sin, they suffered within themselves the penalty they deserved.

²⁸ Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done. ²⁹ Their lives became full of every kind of wickedness, sin, greed, hate, envy, murder, quarreling, deception, malicious behavior, and gossip. ³⁰ They are backstabbers, haters of God, insolent, proud, and boastful. They invent new ways of sinning, and they disobey their parents. ³¹ They refuse to understand, break their promises, are heartless, and have no mercy. ³² They know God’s justice requires that those who do these things deserve to die, yet they do them anyway. Worse yet, they encourage others to do them, too.”
