There are so many variations of using the term, “by nature”, “it’s natural”, “everyone is doing it”, “I can’t help myself, I just like this by my nature”. The key question is whose nature are we referring to?

Scripture tells us repeatedly that there are two natures available to all of us. The nature of the this world (that is presently under the dominion of Satan) and therefore his nature. In other words, of the world, worldliness really really means ruled and ordered by Satan, the enemy of God.

SIN = SATAN / SELF + IN

The reality is God leaves it to us to choose our allegiance to either the world and it’s ruler Satan or to Him and The Lord Jesus Christ. If we are truly submitted to Him, by nature we will be just like Jesus. If we are submitted to another, we will not be like Jesus but like whatever we submit to.

2 Corinthians 4

“4 Therefore, since God in his mercy has given us this new way, we never give up. 2 We reject all shameful deeds and underhanded methods. We don’t try to trick anyone or distort the word of God. We tell the truth before God, and all who are honest know this.

3 If the Good News we preach is hidden behind a veil, it is hidden only from people who are perishing. 4 Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.”

James 4:3-5

4 You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God. 5 Do you think the Scriptures have no meaning? They say that God is passionate that the spirit he has placed within us should be faithful to him.”

To make it as clear as I know how, if it serves self, kills, steals or destroys, by nature it is of this world. If it thinks of others, loves others, acts like Jesus and bring life abundantly to others
