  1. Luke 10 World English Bible (WEB)
10 Now after these things, the Lord also appointed seventy others, and sent them two by two ahead of him into every city and place where he was about to come. 2 Then he said to them, “The harvest is indeed plentiful, but the laborers are few. Pray therefore to the Lord of the harvest, that he may send out laborers into his harvest. 3 Go your ways. Behold, I send you out as lambs among wolves. 4 Carry no purse, nor wallet, nor sandals. Greet no one on the way. 5 Into whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house.’ 6 If a son of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; but if not, it will return to you. 7 Remain in that same house, eating and drinking the things they give, for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Don’t go from house to house. 8 Into whatever city you enter, and they receive you, eat the things that are set before you. 9 Heal the sick who are there, and tell them, ‘God’s Kingdom has come near to you.’ 10 But into whatever city you enter, and they don’t receive you, go out into its streets and say, 11 ‘Even the dust from your city that clings to us, we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that God’s Kingdom has come near to you.’ 12 I tell you, it will be more tolerable in that day for Sodom than for that city.

    • Good morning!! Got our walk in ,in the beautiful sunshine and i’m Hoping to take some more of it in on my front lawn later!

    • Good morning dear ones. It is Lovely to feel the warmth of the sun today. I think of all people, we in the colder climates appreciate the new life of the Spring.
Vs3-4 as lambs among wolves, He was sending them. They truly had to depend on the word that He gave them and trust for everything of their needs in true faith. It is interesting that Jesus tells them to not go from house to house. I am thinking that He meant for them to stay only at one house and minister out from there. The Passion Translation says vs7. Don’t feel the need to shift from one house to another, but stay put in one home during your time in that city.

    • “Greet no one on the way”…puzzles me. And I’m also wondering how it was decided whose house to go into..KC thoughts?

      • In the Passion Translation vs4 b “and don’t get distracted from my purpose by anyone you might meet along the way“. I think that hospitality was a big deal during that time and so maybe if they engaged with someone along the way, it might mean they would be obligated to go to their house and spend time with them and that would not be what their purpose was to be.
        Wendy

        • Makes sense. Undistracted focus on what the Father was leading them to do. Understanding of the culture of that time and the hospitality rules very likely would shed more light on this.Kc

          • I was just thinking similar thoughts. He sent them out with no material provisions, which shows they had nothing but their faith, and willingness to follow their Master, no matter how difficult the task . cC

    • These last verses are pretty intense about what happens if they received them and if they didn’t receive them. It’s not even that it is personal against them although it is, but it is the fact that people are rejecting the Kingdom of God. That it will be better for Sodom than them in the judgement day, Wow.

      Wendy

      • Very intense.. But clearly shows that even the disciples could expect this mixed reception. I think that we often “rate” our “performance” by how people respond to what we do. This is saying to me that even if I do everything according to scripture, some will receive it and some will not.

        • I cannot tell you all how powerfully these studies are revealing truth to my heart in a timely manner. Yesterday, the realization that it takes different events/signs to convince different people just sunk in on a whole other level. Humanly speaking, waiting on others to hear what we hear and see what we see is challenging especially when our convictions run deep. But the story of Moses (both the situation with Zipporah circumsing their son so suddenly and with the 10 plagues necessary to convince everyone that God was really calling them out) has been such an encouragement. The Lord is bringing these things back powerfully.

    • vs 2 is extremely interesting too. Very few actually doing the work of the Kingdom and bringing in the harvest. We just learned our new Hebrew Letter today.. Zayin… it means either Sword or Scythe (either a tool for working the land and bringing in the harvest).. or a weapon to draw blood and do violence with. Somehow it is far easier to pick up the a Zayin Sword of violence instead of the Zayin too of the harvest.

    • vs 9 is a personal passion.. Heal the sick AND preach the gospel . These two things go so hand in hand all through th M NT. This is exactly what Jesus did and exactly what He commanded the disciples to do and via Matthew 28 NKJV… teach them (as in us)” to observe all things that I have commanded you”
18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

    • vs 11… I find the dust most often in my thoughts.. those thoughts that keep lingering or accusing, or replaying after a “negative” encounter. But I also do notice “spiritual” dust. Things that I need to forbid, drive out via praise etc.. For me this is an established reality that “stuff” transfers when we interact with people and it not removed, can really do a number on us. Praise God, once we are aware of us, it is no harder to deal with than shaking off dust.

  2. 13 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon which were done in you, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. 14 But it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgment than for you. 15 You, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, will be brought down to Hades. 16 Whoever listens to you listens to me, and whoever rejects you rejects me. Whoever rejects me rejects him who sent me.”

17 The seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!”

18 He said to them, “I saw Satan having fallen like lightning from heaven. 19 Behold, I give you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy. Nothing will in any way hurt you. 20 Nevertheless, don’t rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

21 In that same hour Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit, and said, “I thank you, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in your sight.”

    • 17 The seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!”

18 He said to them, “I saw Satan having fallen like lightning from heaven. 19 Behold, I give you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy. Nothing will in any way hurt you.

This reminds me of the following awesome verse.

Amplified. Rev 12:7 And war broke out in heaven, Michael [the archangel] and his angels waging war with the dragon. The dragon and his angels fought, 8 but they were not strong enough and did not prevail, and there was no longer a place found for them in heaven. 9 And the great dragon was thrown down, the age-old serpent who is called the [d]devil and Satan, he who continually deceives and seduces the entire inhabited world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.

Jesus was giving His disciples a small picture of a vast landscape of many realms but the simple truth of who has the real authority.

      Rob

    • This first verse is Kind of implying that they had to shake the dust off their feet a lot in this location, that the people felt themselves to be wise and understanding ..unlike little children. Is caperneum one of three places talked about her where the people were not responding positively? KC

      • Matthew 11:20-24 King James Version (KJV)
20 Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:

21 Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

22 But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.

23 And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.

24 But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.

    • Vs20 “nevertheless, don’t rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” He is redirecting their focus to what really matters. That is such a wonderful humbling, reminder that keeps us from getting puffed up by doing the greater works.
      Wendy

      • Yes, that does put another light on it doesn’t it. I wonder if that is why there is so much struggle with people feeling insecure and “dis—-abled” in this day, because the enemy keeps whispering to them that they are worthless etc. The enemy is directly assaulting Christ in us and trying to make us reject Him. WOW,

    • vs 18 and 19. I come back to these over and over again. I need to understand who I am and what Jesus has given me so that I can do the things He calls me to do. I am amazed at how often He reveals to me, I catch myself limiting God. My human perspective, my ability to judge my capacity is challenged almost daily if not hourly

    • vs 21. There are several verses that refer to having a childlike perspective actually being an advantage in the Kingdom of God. Academic minsets and human knowledge and smarts are a real and pervasive threat against genuine rhema revelation. I have to continually set aside the part of me that wants to “read into” things and add “things between the lines”.

2 Corinthians 1:13 New Living Translation (NLT)
13 Our letters have been straightforward, and there is nothing written between the lines and nothing you can’t understand. I hope someday you will fully understand us,

  3. 22 Turning to the disciples, he said, “All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is, except the Father, and who the Father is, except the Son, and he to whomever the Son desires to reveal him.”

23 Turning to the disciples, he said privately, “Blessed are the eyes which see the things that you see, 24 for I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see the things which you see, and didn’t see them, and to hear the things which you hear, and didn’t hear them.”

25 Behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested him, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

26 He said to him, “What is written in the law? How do you read it?”

27 He answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind;Deuteronomy 6:5 and your neighbor as yourself.”Leviticus 19:18

28 He said to him, “You have answered correctly. Do this, and you will live.”

29 But he, desiring to justify himself, asked Jesus, “Who is my neighbor?”

30 Jesus answered, “A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who both stripped him and beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 By chance a certain priest was going down that way. When he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32 In the same way a Levite also, when he came to the place, and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a certain Samaritan, as he traveled, came where he was. When he saw him, he was moved with compassion, 34 came to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. He set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 35 On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the host, and said to him, ‘Take care of him. Whatever you spend beyond that, I will repay you when I return.’ 36 Now which of these three do you think seemed to be a neighbor to him who fell among the robbers?”

37 He said, “He who showed mercy on him.”

Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”

    • This tells me that the Lord always knows and sees the motivation behind our questions. “Desiring to justify himself”. KC

    • vs 22… “All things have been delivered to me”. TOTAL redemption… elsewhere we see that not all things have come into submission but that this is a process presently happening. I benefit from reminding myself that Jesus established the victory. The WAR is OVER… What is happening now is enforcement.

      • I benefit from reminding myself that Jesus established the victory. The WAR is OVER… What is happening now is enforcement.

This is something extremely important yet very difficult to live out and walk minute by minute. Such a foundational principal.

    • vs 23 It is a profound and powerful blessing to be able to hear God’s voice and discern His words. It is so easy to forget that those who don’t see what we see often “CAN NOT”. They are not trying to be obtuse or willfull blind.. They are unable, lack the present capacity due to a spiritual or other blindness. Knowing this wil spare us immense frustration, countless debates and from the need to “help” others to see what we see. Eyes that see and ears that hear are gifts from the Father. The central thing that happened in the Fall was the loss of relationship, and the loss of the ability to hear, follow and obey the Lord. Thank God that the Word of God heals “He sent forth His Word and He Healed them” and that the prayers of the saints are powerful. Far better to say one verse in love and trust the good seed to bear a future harvest than to try to force an immediate revelation.

  4. 38 As they went on their way, he entered into a certain village, and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she came up to him, and said, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister left me to serve alone? Ask her therefore to help me.”

41 Jesus answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, 42 but one thing is needed. Mary has chosen the good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

    • The message that is becoming so clear these days is how easy it is to be ‘distracted from what’s really important and necessary in our “serving the Lord” Yeshua points out here that when ever we are experiencing being “troubled and anxious about many things” feeling pressured and overwhelmed because we aren’t getting the help we perceive others should be giving..we are not choosing the ‘good part’ . Lord never stop bringing ‘on course correction “ to Your people! KC

    • Oh MY… this passage ministers to me and challenges me every time I read it. Sitting and listening is the far harder of the two things. Action is almost therapeutic the body and the mind. It just feels so much more like we are accomplishing something. This is one of those human truths that God that inverts a biblical truth. “God helps those who help themselves”… God actually helps those who wait on Him and follow His lead. Waiting on HIm is often far more productive than doing things that He doesn’t call us to. Even worse, in plunging ahead, we risk birthing an Ishmael… something that will prove to be a challenge and deficit potentially for several generations. Psalm 127:1 King James Version (KJV)
127 Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

      • This such a important subject. So many verses come to mind. We could spend hours on this and just scratch the surface.

        Rob

      • A modern day struggle as hosts or hostesses, we would want to honour our most special guest, Jesus, but he wants us put his word over all.
