  1. Exodus 4 King James Version (KJV)
4 And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will say, The Lord hath not appeared unto thee.

2 And the Lord said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod.

3 And he said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it.

4 And the Lord said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand:

5 That they may believe that the Lord God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.

6 And the Lord said furthermore unto him, Put now thine hand into thy bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom: and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous as snow.

7 And he said, Put thine hand into thy bosom again. And he put his hand into his bosom again; and plucked it out of his bosom, and, behold, it was turned again as his other flesh.

8 And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe thee, neither hearken to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign.

  2. Yes I love how much we can relate to a lot of these biblical figures, they had the same struggles as we have and God time after time shows how faithful He is in walking with them and providing what they needed. It was not any easier for them than it is for us.

  3. Exodus 4 KJV “9 And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe also these two signs, neither hearken unto thy voice, that thou shalt take of the water of the river, and pour it upon the dry land: and the water which thou takest out of the river shall become blood upon the dry land.

10 And Moses said unto the Lord, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.

11 And the Lord said unto him, Who hath made man’s mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the Lord?

12 Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.

13 And he said, O my Lord, send, I pray thee, by the hand of him whom thou wilt send.

14 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart.

15 And thou shalt speak unto him, and put words in his mouth: and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do.

16 And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people: and he shall be, even he shall be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou shalt be to him instead of God.

17 And thou shalt take this rod in thine hand, wherewith thou shalt do signs.

18 And Moses went and returned to Jethro his father in law, and said unto him, Let me go, I pray thee, and return unto my brethren which are in Egypt, and see whether they be yet alive. And Jethro said to Moses, Go in peace.”

    • LOL… just realized I did this with the kids yesterday and not with you all. That passage about mouths always makes me chuckle. vs 18 really jumps out to me. Moses appealed and asked permission from Jethro to be able to go. Unsure what to make of the fact that he did not reveal his agenda to Jethro. So he did go with Jethro’s blessing… but under false pretense possibly?

      • That is interesting! He told him of his intentions to leave that family .. his wife and flocks and family duties etc without much explanation of why. No obvious curiosity or complaints from Jethro though!
        KC

      • Maybe Moses thought if he told Jethro the real reason he was going, Jethro would think he was crazy and try to stop him and/or he didn’t know how to explain it to Jethro.

    • I love that God says “I will be with your mouth… and teach you what to say”
This is an area of unbelief I need to repent of for I have walked in a lot of doubt concerning whether He is ‘with my mouth’ I simply want to have childlike faith that he is and stop being moved because of the lack of or negative responses that come my way.KC

      • I love this argument that God and Moses have about his mouth and how unqualified Moses feels, even with God repeatedly reassuring Him. I think wow Moses look at what God is saying to you, He will be with you and tell you what to say, but then I realize how many times have I done exactly what Moses did and not trusted God. I too want to have that childlike faith, that just trusts my Father without question. Like the little child that with absolute trust will throw themselves off a counter into your arms trusting you will catch them. I would never betray that trust, how much more our Father would not either. Lord God keep that at the front of my mind and heart, the next time I question you. Wendy

    • Never noticed this portion of God’s response.

I know that he can speak well.”

Kind of like, fine Moses, here is someone that can speak well, but this is going to happen!!
      Rob

      • Yes kind of like He was saying it makes no difference whether the one I’m working through speaks well or not as He’s not limited.. in one who wasn’t relying on his human strengths would bring more glory to God … but God was gracious to take Moses insecurities into account

  4. Exodus 4 “21 And the Lord said unto Moses, When thou goest to return into Egypt, see that thou do all those wonders before Pharaoh, which I have put in thine hand: but I will harden his heart, that he shall not let the people go.

22 And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the Lord, Israel is my son, even my firstborn:

23 And I say unto thee, Let my son go, that he may serve me: and if thou refuse to let him go, behold, I will slay thy son, even thy firstborn.

24 And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the Lord met him, and sought to kill him.

25 Then Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet, and said, Surely a bloody husband art thou to me.

26 So he let him go: then she said, A bloody husband thou art, because of the circumcision.

27 And the Lord said to Aaron, Go into the wilderness to meet Moses. And he went, and met him in the mount of God, and kissed him.

28 And Moses told Aaron all the words of the Lord who had sent him, and all the signs which he had commanded him.

29 And Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel:

30 And Aaron spake all the words which the Lord had spoken unto Moses, and did the signs in the sight of the people.

31 And the people believed: and when they heard that the Lord had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.

    • I have always been interested in the difference in people hardening their hearts and God hardening their
      hearts.
Exodus 4 “21 And the Lord said unto Moses, When thou goest to return into Egypt, see that thou do all those wonders before Pharaoh, which I have put in thine hand: but I will harden his heart, that he shall not let the people go.”

      • Very interesting! potentially lines up with the verses in the NT about 1 Timothy 4:1-3 King James Version (KJV) “4 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.”

  5. Interesting, I don’t think that vs, 23 ever sunk in before with me, that God had decided to kill the first born right from the beginning, if Pharaoh refused to let God’s first born go.
    Wendy

  6. Vs 24 and 25 kind of comes out of the blue with no conversation between God and Moses. Was Zipporah more in tune to pick up on the lack of circumcision as to why?? Karen

    • Yes this has always been a puzzle to me as well. I know at one point in our fellowship there was a teaching on it, but I still did not really get it. It was something to do with a covenant, but I can’t remember now. It obviously did not sink in too far. LOL
      Wendy

    • I had a chat with God about circumcision when I was reading Jerimiah. I had heard of heart circumcision and male circumcision but never ear… so I asked God. And He answered, it means removing the little fleshy bit. Perhaps this was a sign of the flesh needing to die to make room for the full expression of the Kingdom. Without the death of the flesh, God’s work in and through a person is forever limiited and hindered. So perhaps this was God setting Moses apart. Zipporah was of pagan background, perhaps this encounter with God is what brought home the reality to her own heart that He was truly God and that the need to cirsumsize their child therefore necessary.

Jeremiah 6:10 English Standard Version (ESV)
10 To whom shall I speak and give warning,
      that they may hear?
      Behold, their ears are uncircumcised,
      they cannot listen;
      behold, the word of the Lord is to them an object of scorn;
they take no pleasure in it.

  7. Last passage for today “Exodus 5 King James Version (KJV)
5 And afterward Moses and Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness.

2 And Pharaoh said, Who is the Lord, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the Lord, neither will I let Israel go.

3 And they said, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days’ journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto the Lord our God; lest he fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword.

4 And the king of Egypt said unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, let the people from their works? get you unto your burdens.

5 And Pharaoh said, Behold, the people of the land now are many, and ye make them rest from their burdens.

6 And Pharaoh commanded the same day the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying,

7 Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as heretofore: let them go and gather straw for themselves.

8 And the tale of the bricks, which they did make heretofore, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish ought thereof: for they be idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God.

    • Pharaoh thought … these people must find their work too boring and easy ! THATS why they want to leave… wow this guy was hard hearted
vs 3 “ lest He fall upon us with pestilence or sword” Did Moses feel this may happen to the Israelites if Pharoah wouldn’t let them go .. or were they the Words God have to make Pharoah nervous about his work force getting sick ?KC

    • Honestly, I find this convicting. there is an old saying that idle hands are the devils handiwork. I am guilty of “increasing” the tasks of my children when they lollygag or do their work with negative attitudes. This brings me back into a posture of prayer about this.

  8. Pharaoh certainly wanted to be in control didn’t he. If I remember correctly, didn’t the Pharaoh’s think of themselves as some kind of god? So of course he would think that he was being challenged by a God that he did not know and Pharaoh obviously (to his demise) thought that he was superior to the Hebrew’s God.
    Wendy

    • LOL… When I read this I was feeling deep conviction about this. The reality is most people want to be in “control” of their own lives and destinies.. and the stories in the Bible echo this theme over and over again. I believe this is why those who actively reject God and reject hearing the gospel fight so hard… They know that to submit to God is to let go of being in charge. That is really really hard on most of us. Praying for all Pharoah like mindsets in me to go in Jesus name.

      • Amen…… Before I accepted the Lord in my late teens, I thought about that a lot. Of all that I would have to give up if I accepted Christ. Then when it finally happened in a miraculous supernatural way, those things did not matter to me anymore. That’s not to say that I don’t battle with it still, but at that moment the saviour took over my fears and thoughts, so that I could come to know Him.
        Wendy

      • Yes a “ Pharoah like mindset” is a good study to recognize how “Gods ways and thoughts are NOT ours! And yes CONTR OL is the issue. KC

  9. Blessings on everyone’s day. Enjoy Good Friday and Passover. We are going to have a Zoom Shabbat this evening. Love Wendy
