Monday March 23, 2020 Group Bible Study on the Goodness and Faithfulness of God

Please call me if you are having any technical difficulties.

Read the intro portion (click on the green link here) intro to the 1st Bible study  (March 22 post) but we will be commenting on this post.   Underneath that you will find daily 1 or 2 daily topics in the comments section.  Under each comment is a a green word “reply”.  If you click on that you can make comments on that particular comment.  If you want to make a general comment on the whole thread, there is a white box at the very bottom of the post for general comments.  Monday’s scripture focus is on God’s faithfulness and goodness towards Adam and Eve before and after the fall.    You can jump in and share verses that God brings to your mind as we go.  I would love to hear what He is revealing to you all in these verses.   Just like what we do in a group.  Share what jumps out to you in each verse.  Let’s encourage one another, and be blessed by the Word together.

Starting at 11am, I will post one section of scripture at a time in the comments below.   Please read it out loud and share whatever jumps out to you.  Our focus is the goodness and faithfulness of God but other observations are welcome.

Perhaps say a little prayer before jumping in along the lines of the one below….

“Dear Heavenly Father, we ask for eyes to see and ears to hear and the ability to understand Your Word.  Please soften any hard places in my heart and help me to share in love, truth, gentleness, humility and kindness and be a blessing to each one who jumps into this study.  In Jesus Christ’s name.”

  2. My thought was that if our minds spend enough time and our eyes spend enough time with God in the window… if His goodness and faithfulness sink in deep, it becomes far easier for us to trust that He will continue to do as He has always done. If you can take a moment to pray the above prayer asking God for His help today to see whatever it is He wants you to see.

  3. Genesis 1 (WEB)”26 God said, “Let’s make man in our image, after our likeness. Let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the sky, and over the livestock, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 God created man in his own image. In God’s image he created him; male and female he created them. 28 God blessed them. God said to them, “Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth, and subdue it. Have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the sky, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” 29 God said, “Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed, which is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree, which bears fruit yielding seed. It will be your food. 30 To every animal of the earth, and to every bird of the sky, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food;” and it was so.
31 God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. There was evening and there was morning, a sixth day.” Please comment by pressing the reply button below and share what jumps out to you.

    • It seems to me that god meant for there to be a full provision for our food to be meet entirely through vegetables ..not meat

    • The details amaze me… God thought of everything that man would need and created an environment that was perfect… His forknew and forsaw every possible need and pro-vided (pre provided) for everything. The very same thing is true today. He still knew in advance where we would be today and His provision right now is as perfect.

    • God gave us dominion over all the earth and yet we have done a horrible job of looking after it. Is this God waking us up? LT

    • Verse 28 strikes me most powerfully.
God spoke over mankind “I bless you. Be full of the fruit of the Spirit (love , joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, kindness, faithfulness and self-control),
multiply, fill the earth and subdue it. “
Imagine what it would have looked like for that kind of perfection and beauty to fill and subdue the earth. This is the will of God! Praise God, Jesus made a way for this to take place on the earth even now.

  4. next verse Genesis 2 WEB ” No plant of the field was yet in the earth, and no herb of the field had yet sprung up; for Yahweh God had not caused it to rain on the earth. There was not a man to till the ground, 6 but a mist went up from the earth, and watered the whole surface of the ground.”

    • Again the details amaze me. Irrigation was automatic, this reminds me of the image of the tree by the river. There is always enough nutrition and water available and yet not so much as to drown the roots. The restfulness of this picture. A lush garden full of food, with no weeds, no thorns that is self irigated. Wow.

    • Eve was the answer to a need of Adam. God gave her to him as an immense blessing. She was there to meet a need that God saw. Being isolated from others actually goes against God’s plan. We were truly made to be in fellowship with others. This strikes me powerfully in this hour. I am so thankful for email, internet and phone technology in this season.

    • It’s interesting to me that after saying so many times “ and God saw that it was good” Its the first time here where God said..’It’s NOT good ( for man to be alone) . Its here where He creates the first human to human relationship.

  5. What jumps out to me is that God saw EVERYTHING that He had made and it was VERY good. So we are VERY GOOD in His sight and we are in His sight. In the amplified version verse 31 and the end of the verse it says “and He validated it completely” I love that. Wendy

  6. I have always loved the verse “Let’s make man in our image, after our likeness.” It reveals so much of God, Christ and His Heavenly Host and yet remains veiled for the most part to us. There is so much more to God than we currently experience. Our role and relationship is so much more also. 1 Cor 13:12 (AMP)
For now [in this time of imperfection] we see in a mirror dimly [a blurred reflection, a riddle, an enigma], but then [when the time of perfection comes we will see reality] face to face. Now I know in part [just in fragments], but then I will know fully, just as I have been fully known [by God]. Rob

    • I can not chew on this verse enough…. that we have the capacity to reflect Him so utterly. And that though He doesn’t author the trials, it is in the fiery furnace that the dross can be revealed and removed. Dear Heavenly Father, I ask for clearer vision for us all that these present trials and temptations would propel and accelerate the process of being renewed and transformed into your likeness in ever increasing measure. In Jesus name.

  7. Next verse.. a bit of a random throw in as it was my today’s verse of the day but so timely “Blessed is a person who endures temptation, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord promised to those who love him.” James 1:12 WEB

    • Every trial endured, every tempation resisted, every challenge overcome comes with an eternal reward. Dan Mohler mentioned that every time the enemy touches you or tempts you he takes a monumental risk of perfecting you more in Christ.. and I would add increasing our storehouse of treasures in heaven. It is far easier to endure when we know that God is keeping track and we will be rewarded for these things.

  8. Genesis 3 “9 Yahweh God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?”
10 The man said, “I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; so I hid myself.” 11 God said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?” 12 The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit from the tree, and I ate it.” 13 Yahweh God said to the woman, “What have you done?”
The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” 14 Yahweh God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, you are cursed above all livestock, and above every animal of the field. You shall go on your belly and you shall eat dust all the days of your life. 5 I will put hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will bruise your head, and you will bruise his heel.” 16 To the woman he said, “I will greatly multiply your pain in childbirth. You will bear children in pain. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.” 17 To Adam he said,
“Because you have listened to your wife’s voice,
and have eaten from the tree,
about which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it,’
the ground is cursed for your sake.
You will eat from it with much labor all the days of your life.
    18 It will yield thorns and thistles to you;
and you will eat the herb of the field.
19 You will eat bread by the sweat of your face until you return to the ground,
for you were taken out of it.
    For you are dust,
and you shall return to dust.”

20 The man called his wife Eve because she would be the mother of all the living. 21 Yahweh God made garments of animal skins for Adam and for his wife, and clothed them. 22 Yahweh God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil. Now, lest he reach out his hand, and also take of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever—” 23 Therefore Yahweh God sent him out from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from which he was taken. 24 So he drove out the man; and he placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.” Please share your thoughts.

    • We see the goodness and grace of God in His response right after they sinned even while meting out the consequences. Fear is their first response after recognizing they were naked which led to them feeling unsafe and vulnerable. Gods presence was their clothing or covering before. The father reveals Yeshua in them being clothed with an animal skin as that animal had to die to provide covering for them. .There was mercy in sending them out of the garden and setting up an angelic guard to the tree of life as He didn’t want them to live in a fallen state for eternity! He is so good and His motivations for what He decides always come from a place of loving us. Incredible!
      Karen

      • Isn’t He good…. Wow! What a merciful Father we have. I recently was introduced to the idea that the parable of the good Samaritan possibly should be called the parable of the great Samaritan. It starts out by describing the man being stripped of his raiment(robe of righteousness), being beaten and left half dead…. representing Adam and the fall… And of course the hero rides up on a donkey bringing with him wine and oil to dress his wounds with….

  9. Yes that is very appropriate Lisa, in the Voice translation it says “Happy is the person who can hold up under the trial of life”. Quite appropriate for right now for sure. Just a technical comment, it seems that when you want to see new comments at least for us, you need to hit the refresh button at the top of the screen in the subject box on the right hand side. It’s a little circle with an arrow. That is for all apple products, it is a different place on windows computers. Rob helped me with that because I wasn’t seeing any new comments until I did that. Wendy

  10. If you are jumping in late, would still love to hear your comments. We will wrap up for today but comments can be added at any time. I would love to hear more of what God is showing you in these things. I will create a new post for tomorrow and label it with the date for clarity. Blessings. Miss you all

    • Thank you Lisa! I needed a little help figuring out how to enter the ‘in time ‘ flow of this but am more hopeful that I will be on the same page tomorrow ! Lol!

  11. Blessings and love to you Lisa. We miss everyone too. We keep all of you in our prayers and lift each other up to the throne of grace.
