A little/big revelation… This is one of my favourite verses as it helps me to stand against one of my most terrible fleshly tendencies… “busy”ness.
Ephesians 3:16-18 “I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. 17 Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. 18 And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is”
Big revelations, what is continually in motion can’t grow roots.
1.Busyness, just plain being busy all the time, isn’t it one of the enemy’s very favourite ways to keep us preoccupied and away from and out of the Word and truths of God. We are all so busy with our own selves, entertaining ourselves, working to pay for our “Stuff”, trying to give our children everything, running from hockey to dance to etc… keeping up with friends, work, church involvement etc… even classes at the church. Running from one thing to the next. I know that I have taken several excellent courses at the church and yet I have forgotten almost everything from each one of these courses as nothing really had the time to sink in.
2. It takes time for the truth of God to get into our hearts, first we need to hear it, then we need to park on it for a while, chew on it, meditate on it and really really embrace it before it is really understood and gets into our hearts, in this way our roots can grow down deep into the promises of God in any given area and once there down deep, they are there to stay.
I have spoken with several people in our class, and this seems to be a theme. Take a course, get encouraged for a time, and before one is done have our eyes already focussed on the next course… and never quite feeling satisfied or really getting the truth in a lasting way…
Some thoughts anyways.. God keep telling me to slow down and soak it in, really get it before moving on, …
